What are Women’s Health Services?

A wide range of services are offered to women through the Carteret County Health Department. Our health care professionals provide medical care, education and support for women.

Maternal Health Services are available to uninsured women and include:
    Physical examination by a Family Nurse Practitioner
    Education
    Referrals, as needed, for services such as WIC and follow-up
   for abnormal findings

The Family Planning and Women’s Preventive Health Services program provides options for women and men to protect themselves from unwanted pregnancies. Planning for a pregnancy ensures that parents are best prepared mentally, physically, and emotionally to care for a child. Services are directed towards helping women and men and their partners protect themselves from unwanted pregnancies, and identify conditions that affect reproductive health, such as sexually transmitted diseases and breast/cervical cancer.

Available Protective Methods for Family Planning include:

Abstinence (not having sex)
Depo-Provera (Birth Control Shot)
Condoms
Vasectomy Counseling

Birth Control Pills
Ortho-Evra (Patch)
IUD

 






 

The Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program targets women 50-64 years of age for breast and cervical cancer screening.

Who is eligible for Women’s Health Services?

The Maternal Health Program targets uninsured women. Payment for services is based on a sliding fee scale with proof of income.

Family Planning Services target men and women of childbearing age. Payment is based on a sliding fee scale and Medicaid and private insurance is also accepted.

Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening services target women 50 to 65 years of age on a sliding fee scale. Medicaid eligibility may be available to those individuals diagnosed with cancer, needing treatment services.

Services are available Monday thru Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm by appointment only. To schedule an appointment or receive more information, please call the telephone number listed above. On your first visit, you will be asked to complete a Confidential Patient Information Sheet. Proof of income is required to determine how much you will pay for services on the sliding fee scale, so be sure to bring a pay stub or other information showing your income.
