Better Nutrition for a Brighter Future
What is the WIC Program?
WIC is a federally funded program
that provides healthy supplemental foods and nutrition counseling
for pregnant women, new mothers, infants and children under
age five. The program serves to safeguard the health of
low-income women, infants, and children up to five years
of age who are at nutritional risk. The program does this
by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information
on healthy eating, and referrals to health care.
Who is eligible for the
WIC Program?
To be eligible for the WIC Program
applicants must be:
pregnant
women or women who have given birth within 6 months,
infants
up to their first birthday, or
children
up to their 5th birthday
This program is for residents
of Carteret County in North Carolina who meet certain income
and nutritional risk criteria.

To determine
if you are eligible for WIC, please call 728-8550 and
ask to speak with someone in the WIC Program. This person
will schedule an appointment for you. You will be asked
to bring certain information (pay slip, Medicaid card,
ID card or driver’s license, Social Security Card,
shot records for children, etc) to the appointment.
If you want WIC for your baby or child, they must come
to your appointment with you. |

Services are available Monday – Friday from 8
am – 5:00 pm
A Satellite Program is located
in Sea Level at the Eastern Carteret Medical Center
on Hwy 70 East.
Services are only available here on the first Friday
of each month in the morning. Call 728-8550 to schedule
appointments for this clinic.
